MESSAGE:
“If you were in prison awaiting execution, would you rather have good advice – that you shouldn’t have broken the law – or GOOD NEWS from the President that he has granted you a full pardon?
In our relationship to God, it is too late for good advice, for man is already condemned and awaiting His judgment. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags” (Isa. 64:6). “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither, indeed, can be. So then, they that are in the flesh cannot please God” (Rom. 8:7-8). “But without faith it is impossible to please Him” (Heb. 11:6). “He that believeth on Him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (Jn. 3:18).
The only good advice God has today for sinful man is that he should listen to and believe the GOOD NEWS.
WHAT IS THE GOOD NEWS?
God loves you, even though He knows all about you. “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:8).
God became a man so that, as the God-man [Christ Jesus] He could save you. “Christ Jesus…Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God; a thing to be grasped [held on to] but emptied Himself [laid aside His privileges]…being made in the likeness of man…becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Phil. 2:5-9).
The Lord Jesus Christ took your sins upon Himself. “Who His own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree” (1 Pet. 2:24).
He fully paid your penalty by dying in your place. “But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God” (Heb. 10:12).
Because His death made if possible for you to be justified (made righteous), He was raised from the dead. He “was delivered for our offences, and was raised because of our justification” (Rom. 4:25).
The Lord Jesus now offers you perfect righteousness as a gift. “For He hath made Him [Christ] to be sin for us…that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Cor. 5:21). “Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Rom. 10:4).
“But,” you reply, “Don’t I have to do my part?”
YES, But your part is ONLY to BELIEVE! “By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, that no one should boast” (Eph. 2:8-9).
If you really believe that Christ has done all this for you:
* You will stop trying to be saved by your good works, or religion, and will rest in what HE has done. “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness” (Rom. 4:5).
* You will love Him because of what He has done for you. “We love Him because He first loved us” (1 Jn. 4:19).
* You will want to know more about Him by studying His Word, the Bible. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God…rightly dividing the Word of Truth” (2 Tim. 2:15).
*You will want others to know about Him also. Why not begin by letting us know that you believe the good news?”
