Let’s Put the X Back in Christmas

PutXInChristmas

Reminds us that Christmas leads to the cross. Comes in a pack of 25.

MESSAGE:

“Many people have become tired of the Christmas symbolisms of trimmed trees and Santa Claus (St. Nicholas was a 4th century bishop of Myra, Asia Minor). Many associate this with the foolish practices of the heathen which crowd Christ out of their life (“Thus saith the Lord, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of Heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that may move not” – Jer. 10:2-4). But, they feel that the worst gesture of all, that crowds Christ out, is changing the name of CHRISTmas to Xmas.
However, “X” is the Greek letter for CH, the first initials for the name Christ. This is not unlike the use of the Greek letters HIS which are the English JES, a shortened form of Jesus. The angel appeared to Joseph announcing that Mary, yet a virgin, would have a Son, “and thou shalt call His name Jesus [meaning Savior]: for He shall save His people from their sins” (Mt. 1:21).
We celebrate the fact that on the first CHRISTmas morning, God the Father demonstrated His love by sending His only begotten Son into the world “that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (Jn. 3:16-17).
Also, we should remember that “X” is one form of the Cross. This suggests that it was not Jesus’ birth that saves us but, rather, His death and resurrection. The Apostle Paul said, “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” 1 Cor. 15:3-4).
Universally, “X” is the symbol for the unknown, reminding us that our lovely Lord Jesus Christ is still unknown to over half the people in the world. “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in Whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?” (Rom. 10:13-14).
Do you know the Christ of CHRISTmas as your personal Savior? Have you called upon Him to redeem you from your sin? God’s delight is to give eternal life as a free gift any day of the year! The Scriptures say: “This is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life” (1 Jn. 5:11-12).
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph. 2:8-9).
“But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (Jn. 1:12).
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).
You may experience God’s Xmas gift now by acknowledging your need as a sinner and simply, by faith, invite the Savior into your life.”
