Proverbs 14:34

In an election year and during an election campaign, there is need for both the candidate and the constituency to face the issues. Our text clearly sets before us the real issues of national prosperity.

Generally speaking, the real issues are ignored and the candidates and constituency are pre-occupied with such lesser issues as: unemployment, social security, energy, the Middle East, health care, foreign policy, inflation, military preparedness, the draft, taxes, and government reform. This preoccupation with lesser issues and their solution is a little like the foolishness of treating only the symptoms of cancer rather than removing the cancer.

The real issue is: How do we as a nation stand in the eyes of God?  I believe if America collapses, it will NOT be because of the secondary issues mentioned above; rather, for the same reason that Ancient Rome was destroyed, because it was sinful and the cancer of immorality caused it to rot from the inside out.

God had repeatedly informed the nations concerning the awful consequences of unrighteousness and the blessings of righteousness. God told Israel, His model nation, to keep “the statutes” (ordinances: Godward), and then the other nations would say concerning them: “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people” (Deut. 4:5-10). Also, God had told Joshua, concerning Israel and the Bible: “Observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success” (Josh. 1:8). On the other hand, if Israel defiled themselves with gross immorality, “the land will spue you out also…as it spued out the nations that were before you” (Lev. 18:24-28; cf., Ex. 12:12; 17:16), and Israel will become “a proverb and a byword among all peoples” (1 Kgs. 9:7-9).

In the days of King Asa, Israel had been a long season “without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without Law…in those times there was no peace…great vexations were upon all…and nation was destroyed of nation.”

However, when King Asa “took courage, and put away the abominable idols…and renewed the altar of the Lord,” God blessed him (2 Chron. 15:1-9)! Why? Because that is what God had promised Israel (2 Chron. 7:14), and I believe there is a similar promise to any nation in any dispensation, for God has said: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Ps. 33:12-18).

I believe it is incumbent upon every Christian, in America, to vote and to vote for righteousness. I believe we ought to vote FOR anything that will tend to promote a God consciousness in our country (Acts 17:27); such as, prayer (1 Tim. 2:1-3; 1 Thess. 5:17) and the teaching of TheisticCreation in the schools (Heb. 11:3; Jn. 1:1-3).  I believe we ought to vote AGAINST anything that fosters immorality and social unrest (Eph. 5:11-12); such as sex education in the schools (Eph. 6:4), drugs and alcohol (Prov. 20:1), Equal Rights Amendment (Titus 2:3-5; 1 Tim. 5:14), homosexuality (Rom. 1:24-32); abortion (Ex. 21:22-24); children’s rights (Eph. 6:1-2); pornography (Eph. 5:11-12), and the National debt and inflation (Rom. 13:8).

It concerns me that the legislative and judicial opinion of America is that everyone should exercise their right to free speech, and the National Council of Churches, the N.A.A.C.P., the K.K.K., the E.R.A., the homosexuals, the Madalyn O’Hairs, and the Gus Halls are all encouraged to champion their causes. BUT, when we as Bible-believing Fundamentalists dare to voice our opinion on the moral and social issues which face our nation, the opposition quickly cries for “separation of church and state.” Our voice is silenced in the media and we are made out to be crackpots and second-class citizens.

Vote your Bible Convictions! America may never have another election. A return of righteousness is our ONLY HOPE!!
