Dear Praying Friends!
Our
summer ministry has started and is in full swing. We have been very busy. We had
to get the "Street Bus" ready for travel (trailer hitch, air conditioner and
generator installed; bus seats and seat belts installed) with a great big thanks
to Rick Bultema and others who lent a hand.
Last
week (June 9-15) was a wonderful but an exhausting time of training my "Bible
Buckaroos Posse"
(13 in all) for street evangelism and working as "Cowboy Camp Counselors. I
believe they have been challenged to witness for Christ and enjoyed living
like cowboys and working on their "cowboys skills show."
This week (June 16-20) was the opening of our
newest "Cowboy Camp" at "SonShine Ranch" in Bangor, Michigan where we have been
hosted by the Steve and Carolyn Rookus Family.
We have 9 campers, 11 "Bible Buckaroos" and 8
additional adult staff, and 15 horses and mules...(Thanks to Neil Schnaath and
Anna Hawley who have supported our cowboy ministry and have loaned them to us!)
We are feeding about 30 people three times a
day (This is great cowboy cookin' thanks to Alicia Hobbs, Joyce Rookus and Rich
Zandstra... nobody goes away hungry or complaining!)
The
days have been filled with horseback riding, cowboy leather craft, instruction
in cowboy skills and the Word of God. Our Bible classes this year are about "Who
is Jesus Christ and What Has He Done."
We have had a campfire fellowship each night
to warm the body (very welcome becaue it has been unseasonably cold all
week) and we have had a "Cowboy Church" every night to warm the heart towards
the Lord.
We have had 40 plus people attend "Cowboy
Church" each evening - some driving by the ranch, saw the "Cowboy Church Sign"
inviting their attendance and drove in and said they really enjoyed it and
brought other friends the next night!
Our "Cowboy Church
includes congregational singing of hymns and choruses, skits, object lessons
from "Professor Hill Billy" (Neil Schnaath - Pastor Schutz's nephew),
Award-winning, Senior Citizen, Trick Roper of the year- "Cowboy Will Smith,"
Cowboy Music from Carl and Clay Schutter (The Trail Riders) and some country
banjo and guitar playing and singing by Ruth Ann Pitcher.
The
gospel preaching by "Cowboys" Clayton and Neil has been powerful and pointed and
given at the level that any young person can understand.
The highlight of the "Cowboy Church,"
however, has been to hear the "Bible Buckaroos" give testimony of the grace of
God in their lives, evidenced by tears and enthusiasm for Jesus!
Tomorrow, the "Bible
Buckaroos" are having lunch with the Bangor, Michigan City Manager, Michael
Selden. Afterwards, we will set up our "Street preaching Bus and Stage" in the
City Park for a performance and witness for Christ at 7PM.
At 9:00PM we will be showing the
Billy Graham, cowboy movie, called "The Ride."
I'm very excited and request your
prayers for the power of the gospel to touch hearts for Christ.
Please accept our thanks for
your interest and fellowship in the gospel. Your prayers are much needed and
appreciated.
I'm riding for the
