January was a beautiful month. We had lots of sunshine and temperatures in the 50's and 60's. But winter wasn't over. February brought us lots of cold weather and lots of snow. On the evening of February 3rd we were watching the news and the long list of church closings on Sunday. I believe that was a first to see that most of the area churches were closed. We did get about 24 inches of snow! But, it was so pretty to see all the trees and everything covered. Our daughter, Cari, is getting married in April and we had a bridal shower all planned BUT she couldn't fly out of De Moines nor could the plane have landed in Grand Rapids! So it, too, was postponed. Now it is March and we are already beginning to see signs of spring. How quickly time passes us by.
We have been kept busy at the office and then we have been visiting area churches. For a couple weeks Lee filled the pulpit for Pastor Ken Peebles of the Faith Bible Church. Pastor Peebles has been laid up because of infection in his hip. He was to have had a hip replacement several months ago but because of the infection he still has not had it and is in constant pain. When you think of him, please pray for him, Nancy and his congregation.
We also had the joy of attending the Beacon Light Community Church in Muskegon. This is now a "blended" church. Two local assemblies combined their ministries. We enjoyed meeting a lot of new people and renewing fellowship with those that we knew. It was a joy to see this church flourishing under the leadership of Pastor John Shyne.
During these months we also visited and/or ministered at the Amazing Grace Acres Church, Brohman, Michigan; Coopersville Bible Church, Coopersville, Michigan; Grace Bible Church, Springfield, Ohio; Croton Community Church, Croton, Michigan; and the Westside Assembly of God, Standale, Michigan.
Cowboy Lee did "ride again" at the Algoma Christian Schools assembly in March. It is such a fun time to watch the responses on the faces of children as Lee gives the Gospel using ropes and whips. They really enjoy it (and he does too).
The highlight of February was the "Cowboy Reunion." This year we did an "over-nighter." Many of the young people camped out at the office (several adults too). We had a good group of cowboys, cowgirls and adults gather together for a "stew" dinner followed by a program consisting of "cowboy lore" and "trick roping" - spinning the rope - by Carlos Castello. The Bible challenge was brought by a Navajo Indian pastor, Lee Peshlakai. Then, on Sunday morning we had Cowboy Church at the Faith Bible Church. The folks at the church prepared a wonderful "pot-luck" dinner for us and the fellowship was great. In the afternoon we had a planning meeting for the 2007 Cowboy Camps.
Now the real work begins in planning, promotion, processing applications, etc. for the Cowboy Camps this summer. Our current plans are to have a Cowboy Camp in Apollo, Pennsylvania, Herman, Missouri and Yankton, South Dakota. We're adding one other one in Herman, Missouri this year for adults. It will be a "camp meeting" type week with the addition of riding horses and cowboy skills.
Also, while this is going on we are busily taking registrations and finalizing plans for the Grace Revival for Evangelism to be held in Branson, Missouri, October 2-5. We'd love to have you join us for these four days of concentrated messages, seminars and music on the subject of soul winning and evangelism. It is a time of challenge and refreshment. Be sure to let us know of your interest in the conference and we'll get information back to you quickly. Or, you can call the office at 888-220-3618.
The summer travel schedules for us as well as the McGarveys are full. We will begin traveling the first week of June and continue on through the fall. Please pray with us and for us for safety on the highway, that the motor homes will be trouble free and for physical and spiritual strength for all of us that are traveling.
Please pray for the ministry of Bible Doctrines. We need your prayers and God's provision. Operating costs are always on the increase, as you are well aware. We ask that you intensify your prayer for us is this regard.
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Matthew 5:43-45) (Read by Max McLean.
