Dear Prayer Partners,
Greetings in the wonderful name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
We ended up having a few days open between meetings this week. We completed
the two week Camp meeting having preached through Romans (1-8) over 14 nights.
We took great care to explain the unique Apostleship of Paul, the baptism of
chapter 6 and the security of chapter 8. In addition we drove home the point of
salvation by grace alone apart from the Law on numerous occasions. It was a real
blessing at the end of the week to have people come and comment on how they had
never really seen and appreciated their salvation and position in Christ before
and were thankful for the messages.
The conference is sponsored by a group of
individuals from the Methodists, Pentecostal, and "Community" churches. In
speaking with a few of the people then genuinely understand salvation by grace
through faith alone but a ignorant of anything else. It is always exciting to
share the truth of God's Word with people who are thirsty for truth. This was
our second time with these folks and they are talking about having us back
perhaps next summer. Please pray that the seeds we were able to plant, along
with the literature that we left behind will continue to find willing minds to
search the Scriptures daily and perhaps come to embrace the Word Rightly
Divided.
As I write this update I am sitting in the hospital in Oklahoma City where
my brother David is a patient. He was showing some progress that week and they
were talking about sending him home. Last Friday morning he filled up with fluid
and his blood pressure dropped dangerously low and they transferred him to ICU
in critical condition. He has developed an infection and a blood clot in his leg
on top of the cancer.
My brother Tim and I decided that we should take a couple of days and spend
some time with him due to the uncertainties and so we drove to Oklahoma arriving
at 3:30AM following a 20 hour drive. We found him eating breakfast in his room
and getting ready to transfer him back to the cancer ward. He's not out of the
woods and has a long road to travel but it was good to see him at least able to
eat a little something.
We'll be here tomorrow and then head back Wednesday morning. Susan is in
Ridgeley, WV catching up on laundry and personal study. Please pray for
her.
Along with the Camp Meeting last week there was also a kids camp (ages
7-11) and we are happy to report 5 kids were saved. PTL
Thank you for your continued prayers. Next week we travel to Scranton, PA
for VBS #6. From there we will preach in State College, PA and then head to
Grand Rapids for VBS #7 and then to Croton Community Church for VBS #8.
In Christ,
Joel R McGarvey
