Summer Ministry - July Update PDF Print

Dear Friends,

Well it's been a while since I last communicated with you. Things have been going great and we are praising the Lord for His goodness each day.

Let me begin with an update on my health. As most of you are aware I fell off of a ladder (6') two weeks ago this past Saturday shortly after arriving in Duncansville, PA. to Begin a week of VBS (#2). I spent Saturday evening (and early Sunday morning) in the ER. I had a concussion, required 7 stitches in my head, bruised my ribs and kidney area and had numerous cuts and bruises. I had a serious scrape on my lower calf that cased me quite a bit of pain when walking.

After a week the leg seemed worse and upon arrival at our next destination (Clearbrook, VA) we went to see a doctor. He diagnosed me with a staph infection and placed my on antibiotics and antibiotic dressings. Well another week has passed and we are finally seeing some improvement (PTL). I still have some tenderness all over, and the kidney area is still causing me some discomfort, especially at night when I lie down, but God is good and He will give me the grace to see me through. Keep us in prayer.

We began VBS #4 tonight in Centerville, PA. So far we have been able to minister to over 70 kids and have seen 26 kids come to Christ as their Savior (PTL). Tonight we had 29 kids in VBS and two accepted Christ (PTL).

In Pennsylvania we had the youth group from Coopersville Bible Church with us on a Mission Trip. They were a double blessing and picked up the slack from my inabilities due to the fall. They were a real blessing to us, as well as to the church and were able to minister in many ways while they were there. We praise the Lord for Clayton Schutter and his faithfulness to the Lord and his love for the kids in his youth group.

This week we have two girls from Grace Bible Fellowship of Ridgely, WV. with us on a Mission Trip and already we are blessed to have them. What an experience it is for these teens to minister in so many ways through VBS. They are the church of tomorrow and we need to begin training them up today. Maybe you or your church's young people would like to join us for a week of ministry next summer. Pray for us as we continue our summer ministry. In two weeks we are scheduled to speak in Hyndman, PA at a two week Camp Meeting. We will be speaking every night for two weeks. A year ago they asked if we would also do the teens during a week of camp (coincides with the camp meeting). We said we were will and waited for the info. In March we were contacted and asked if we were still willing to which we answered yes. Then in April we were told that there was not going to be a camp for teens because they couldn't get enough staff. Last week we were called and informed that yes indeed we would be doing the teen camp along with the Camp Meeting. So pray for us as we frantically put together a week of camp, a schedule, a series of lessons, memory work and the such and we have two weeks to do it. PTL

Prayer to for Lee and Darlene as they continue their camp ministry. Currently they are in Yankton, SD with Cowboy Camp #2. Pray too for Lee's sister Barbara who broke her shoulder and required surgery. But being the real Cowgirl that she is she is back in the saddle (figuratively speaking) and is in Yankton helping as she can with the camp.

Pray too for the office staff (Jan, Bev and Carolyn) as they hold down the fort and keep the wheels of the ministry turning.

Well that is all for now. Thank you for your prayers as well as your financial gifts.

In Christ's Service,

Joel & Susan McGarvey
